Internet Abuse

Internet Dependence Definitions

Internet Addiction and Internet Use Gaming Disorder are synonyms ‘describing an online users potential to become compulsive dependent upon the internet and other forms of Information and Communications Technology. Michael Nuccitelli Psy.D., a New York State licensed psychologist and author of the Information Age Forensics construct, iPredator, has developed a diagnostic screening tool, at no cost to download, to assess if a child or adult online user is engaged in problematic internet use. Below are Dr. Nuccitelli’s 2013 formal definitions for Internet Abuse and Internet Dependence, which are included in his understanding of the Internet Addiction and Internet Use Gaming Disorder diagnosis. Once the professional community agrees to formal diagnostic criteria, etiology and terminology, Dr. Nuccitelli will revisit and update his definitions if warranted.

Internet Abuse

Internet Addiction Disorder: Type I

Author: Michael Nuccitelli Psy.D.

iPredator Inc. (2013)

Internet Abuse: Internet Abuse (aka Internet Addiction & Internet Use Gaming Disorder) is an umbrella concept defining a child or adult’s compulsive and progressive abuse of the internet and electronic devices designed to obtain, exchange or disseminate information. Although the internet is the predominate arena in which Internet Abuse takes place, electronic devices and communications channels not internet enabled are also included in the definition. Internet Abuse causes dysfunctional cognitive, affective, behavioral & perceptual intrapersonal consequences accompanied with employment, academic, familial, peer & intimate partner interpersonal consequences. On a continuum of severity, ranging from absent to mild, cessation of Internet and/or electronic device usage causes withdrawal symptomatology, psychological and/or physiological, combined with perceptual tolerance. Also on a continuum of severity, Internet Abusive online users engage in criminal, deviant and/or deceptive online activities ranging from absent to severe.

The chronic and more debilitating condition, Internet Dependence, is more chronic, severe and self-destructive. Internet Abuse is segmented into six typologies as follows: Cyber Sex Fixated, Cyber Relationship Fixated, Internet Gaming & Online Commerce Fixated, Information Implosion Fixated, Dark Side Fixated and NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) Fixated. The NOS Fixated typology applies to internet abusing online users who share more than one typology, has a co-existing mental illness or medical condition causing psychiatric dysfunction.

Internet Dependence

Internet Addiction Disorder: Type II

Also on a continuum of severity, Internet Dependent online users engage in criminal, deviant and/or deceptive online activities ranging from mild to severe.

Internet Addiction Disorder

The mild and less debilitating condition, Internet Abuse, is not as chronic, severe or self- destructive. Internet Dependence is segmented into six typologies as follows: Cyber Sex Fixated, Cyber Relationship Fixated, Internet Gaming & Online Commerce Fixated, Information Implosion Fixated, Dark Side Fixated and NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) Fixated. Internet Addiction is a Real Pathology

As the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) is formally being released to the professional community and public, the disorders addressing Internet Addiction and Internet Use Gaming Disorder are now being introduced to the professional community, parents, educators and all online users.

Interested parties can visit iPredator Inc.’s website to review or download the IARC or for immediate access, please click on the link available here: Internet Addiction Risk Checklist. Dr. Nuccitelli is the author of the Information Age Forensics construct, iPredator, and the formal acceptance of online users being capable of suffering from an Internet Addiction by the professional community is proof of a two-fold message. One, the Information Age has brought to civilization the wonders of digital technology and rapid information access. Two, and as with all positives comes negatives, the dark side of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, online sexual predation and now, Internet Addiction.

Internet Addiction Disorder | Internet Use Gaming Disorder

Just as all forms of addiction, the probability of the internet addict engaging in criminal, deviant and abusive behavior significantly increases. If in fact, it will be verified that Internet Addiction is an actual mental illness, not only must the healthcare industry mobilize, but law enforcement and the judicial system as well must become prepared. A brief definition of Dr. Nuccitelli’s definition of Internet Dependence and the Internet Addiction Risk Checklist (IARC) is as follows:

Internet Addiction Risk Checklist (IARC): The Internet Addiction Risk Checklist (IARC) is a 100- item risk assessment designed to investigate if an online user is engaging in pathological use of the internet and ICT. The checklist statements have been categorized into cognitive, affective, behavioral and perceptual sections all themed surrounding the compulsive dependent use of digital devices. The IARC can be taken as a self-assessment and when assessing others. Although the IARC is a general assessment for pathological ICT usage, supplement items have been added to focus on the areas of Cyber Sex, Cyber Relationship, Gaming & Online Commerce, Information Implosion & Dark Side ICT usage.

Internet Addiction

Internet Addiction & Internet Use Gaming Disorder are two hotly debated issues being discussed now that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) is formally being released to the professional community and public. Researched, aggregated and authored by Michael Nuccitelli Psy.D., a New York State licensed psychologist and forensic psychology consultant, interested parties are welcomed to download his Internet Addiction webpage article at no cost and requiring no personal information.

Internet Addiction, Internet Use Disorder & Internet Use Gaming Disorder are three synonymous terms describing the psychopathology involved with children and adults who become dependent upon Information and Communications Technology. Michael Nuccitelli Psy.D., a New York State licensed psychologist and author of the Information Age Forensics construct, iPredator, presents his understanding of the Information Age addiction called Internet Use Disorder. As the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) is formally being released to the professional community and public, the disorders addressing Internet Addiction and Internet Use Gaming Disorder are being hotly debated.

Interested parties can visit iPredator Inc.’s website to review or download the Internet Addiction article or for immediate access, please click on the link available here: Internet Addiction.

Dr. Nuccitelli is the author of the Information Age Forensics construct, iPredator, and the formal acceptance of online users being capable of suffering from an Internet Addiction by the professional community is what Dr. Nuccitelli believes isone step closer for humanity accepting we live in the Information Age. Just all compulsive dependencies, whether chemical or behavioral, the probability of the addict engaging in criminal, deviant and abusive behavior significantly increases.

If in fact there is a proven and consensually accepted disorder fitting criteria for Internet Addiction, it becomes paramount for the professional community to investigate how this newly introduced addictive disorder influences the plethora of new Information Age criminal and deviant activities that are already growing at a feverish pace. A brief definition of Dr. Nuccitelli’s construct, iPredator, and his definition of Internet Dependence is as follows:

Internet Use Disorder | Internet Addiction Disorder | Internet Use Gaming Disorder

Internet Dependence: Internet Dependence (aka Internet Addiction) is an umbrella concept defining a child or adult’s compulsive and progressive dependency upon an electronic device designed to obtain, exchange or disseminate information. Although the internet is the predominate arena in which Internet Dependence takes place, electronic devices that are not internet enabled are also included. Internet Dependence causes dysfunctional cognitive, affective, behavioral & perceptual intrapersonal consequences and employment, academic, familial, peer & intimate partner interpersonal consequences. On a continuum of severity, ranging from mild to severe, cessation of Internet usage causes withdrawal symptomatology.

To be defined as Internet Dependent, negative intrapersonal and interpersonal consequences from internet usage are evident, a pattern of tolerance has been established and withdrawal symptomatology is required. Also on a continuum of severity, internet dependent online users engage in criminal, deviant and/or deceptive online activities ranging from mild to severe.

iPredator Definition

iPredator: A child, adult, group or nation who, directly or indirectly, participates in the exploitation, victimization, stalking, theft or disparagement of others using Information and Communications Technology (ICT.) iPredators are driven by deviant fantasies, desires for power and control, retribution, religious fanaticism, political reprisal, psychiatric illness, perceptual distortions, peer acceptance or personal and financial gain. iPredators can be any age, either gender and not bound by economic status, race or national heritage.

iPredator is a global term used to distinguish anyone who engages in criminal, deviant or abusive behaviors using ICT. Whether the offender is a cyberbullycyberstalker, cyber harasser, cyber criminal, online sexual predator, internet troll or cyber terrorist, they fall within the scope of iPredator. The three criteria used to define an iPredator include:

I. A self-awareness of causing harm to others, directly or indirectly, using ICT. II. The intermittent to frequent usage of ICT to obtain, exchange and deliver harmful information. III. A general understanding of Cyberstealth used to engage in criminal or deviant activities or to profile, identify, locate, stalk and engage a target.

Unlike human predators prior to the Information Age, iPredators rely on the multitude of benefits offered by ICT. These assistances include exchange of information over long distances, rapidity of information exchanged and the seemingly infinite access to data available. Malevolent in intent, iPredators rely on their capacity to deceive others using ICT in an abstract electronic universe.

Internet Addiction is a Real Pathology

Dr. Nuccitelli is quoted saying, “As the professional community continues bickering on the etiology, terminology and criteria for Internet Addiction, thousands of American online users are becoming compulsive dependent to the internet, mobile device technology & all forms of information technology. It also needs to be understood that with all addiction comes an increased probability of the addict engaging in criminal, deviant and abusive behaviors. As an internet safety educator, it is time to address this growing behavioral cancer.”

Cleveland Kidnapping Podcast

On 5-13-13 at 12pm EST & 9am PST, Nancy Ferrari, host of the internet radio show, The Nancy Ferrari Show, interviewed Dr. Michael Nuccitelli on the psychodynamics of the Cleveland kidnapper suspect, Ariel Castro. Over the 52-minute interview, Dr. Nuccitelli discusses the case and his constructs iPredator, Dark Psychology & the Malignant Sociopath. Provided here is the direct link to the podcast.

5/13/13: NANCY FERRARI SHOW INTERVIEWS DR. NUCCITELLI ON THE CLEVELAND KIDNAPPING, DARK PSYCHOLOGY & MALIGNANT SOCIOPATHY:

MALIGNANT SOCIOPATHY

“The Malignant Sociopath is a disturbed person who exhibits the extreme form of Sociopathy, does not suffer from an acute psychiatric mental illness, is predominantly driven by the need for absolute power and control and views the enslavement of their victim(s) as a priori as opposed to taking their life, engaging in sexual and/or violent victimization, stealing their valuables or causing them psychological distress.” Michael Nuccitelli Psy.D., (2013)

Malignant Sociopathy is defined as a rare and extreme form of the classic definition of the sociopath. A Malignant Sociopath is someone who exhibits the extreme form of Sociopathy, does not suffer from an acute psychiatric mental illness, is predominantly driven by the need for absolute power and control and views the enslavement of their victim(s) as a priori as opposed to taking their life, engaging in sexual and/or violent victimization, stealing their valuables or causing them psychological distress.

The current accepted definition of a Sociopath is a personality disordered person that exhibits patterned behavior similar Antisocial Personality Disorder, often criminal or deviant, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. The Sociopath also exhibits amoral behavior, fails to learn from his/her experiences, lacks the ability to establish meaningful personal relationships, extremely egocentric and narcissistic and frequently engages in fantasizing about wanting to victimize, torture and enslave a targeted victim(s). The Malignant Sociopath is the severe form of the sociopathy, extremely rare and is fixated upon absolute domination, control and enslavement of their victim(s).

Note to Reader: For purposes of fully understanding the Dark Psychology and sub-tenet of Malignant Sociopathy, Dr. Nuccitelli views the profiles of the Psychopath and Sociopath as synonymous with slight variation in modus operandi and subjective processing systems. Under his interpretation, the Psychopath tends to be more isolative, a loner and less likely to intrinsically value social relationships.

The Psychopath can either be isolative, a loner and less likely to intrinsically value social relationships or behave in the opposite manner, but still have these internal perceptions. The other variation different from the Sociopath is that the Psychopath experiences a delusional, dissociative or severely disturbed worldview that fuels his/her victimization pursuits.

“It is the individual who is not interested in his fellow men who has the greatest difficulties in life and provides the greatest injury to others. It is from among such individuals that all human failures spring.” Alfred Adler (1870-1930)

DARK PSYCHOLOGY

5/8/13: Forensic Psychologist Available to Discuss Dark Psychology of the Cleveland Kidnapping Suspect:

http://www.prweb.com/releases/dark-psychology/cleveland-kidnapping/prweb10712059.htm

Dark Psychology: Dark Psychology is the study of the human condition as it relates to the psychological nature of people to prey upon other people motivated by criminal and/or deviant drives that seemingly lack purpose and general assumptions of instinctual drives or social sciences theory. All of humanity has this potential to victimize other humans and living creatures. While many restrain or sublimate this tendency, some act upon these impulses.

Dark Psychology seeks to understand those thoughts, feelings, perceptions and subjective processing systems that lead to predatory behavior that is antithetical to contemporary understandings of human behavior. Dark Psychology assumes that criminal, deviant and abusive behaviors are purposive and have some rational, goal- oriented motivation 99% of the time. It is the remaining 1%, Dark Psychology parts from Adlerian theory and the Teleological Approach. Dark Psychology postulates there is a region within the human psyche that enables some people to commit atrocious acts without purpose. In this theory, it is called the Dark Singularity.

Dark Psychology posits that all humanity has a reservoir of malevolent intent towards others ranging from minimally obtrusive and fleeting thoughts to pure psychopathic deviant behaviors without any cohesive rationality. This is called the Dark Continuum. Mitigating factors acting as accelerants and/or attractants to approaching the Dark Singularity, and where a person’s heinous actions fall on the Dark Continuum, is what Dark Psychology calls Dark Factor.

Dark Psychology encompasses all that makes us who we are in relationship to our dark side. All cultures, all faiths and all humanity have this proverbial cancer. From the moment we are born to the time of death, there is a side lurking within us all that some have called evil and others have defined as criminal, deviant, and pathological. Dark Psychology introduces a third philosophical construct that views these behaviors different from religious dogmas and contemporary social sciences theories.

Dark Psychology posits that this predator style is purposive and has some rational, goal-oriented motivation. Religion, philosophy, psychology, and other dogmas have attempted cogently to define Dark Psychology. It is true most human behavior, related to evil actions, is purposive and goal oriented, but Dark Psychology assumes there is an area where purposive behavior and goal oriented motivation seems to become nebulous. There is a continuum of Dark Psychology victimization ranging from thoughts to pure psychopathic deviance without any apparent rationality or purpose. This continuum, Dark Continuum, helps to conceptualize the philosophy of Dark Psychology.

Dark Psychology addresses that part of the human psyche or universal human condition that allows for and may even impel predatory behavior. Some characteristics of this behavioral tendency are, in many cases, its lack of obvious rational motivation, its universality and its lack of predictability.

 Cleveland Kidnappings

Dark Psychology & Malignant Sociopathy

iPredator Inc. founder, Michael Nuccitelli Psy.D., will be guest on The Nancy Ferrari Show educating her listeners on the dynamics of the Cleveland Kidnappings, Dark Psychology & his construct of Malignant Sociopathy. On Monday May 13, 2013 from 12-12:50pm EST 9-9:50am PST, Dr. Nuccitelli will present the forensic and criminological aspects of this traumatic national event.

Cleveland Kidnappings, Dark Psychology & Sociopathy

On May 6, 2013, the Cleveland Kidnappings became part of the American lexicon when three young women were rescued after being held captive for over a decade. The brave women are now reunited with their families and various law enforcement authorities attempt to piece back together the puzzle of depravity. On Monday May 13, 2013 from 12-12:50pm EST 9-9:50am PST, Dr. Nuccitelli will present the forensic and criminological aspects of this traumatic national event on The Nancy Ferrari Show available online at www.W4CY.com.

As a NYS licensed psychologist and forensic psychology consultant, Dr. Nuccitelli is the author of the Information Age Forensics construct, iPredator & theoretical criminology construct, Dark Psychology. With host, Nancy Ferrari, Dr. Nuccitelli will educate listeners on the profile and motivations of the alleged kidnapper, the traits of sociopaths and a sub tenet of his criminological construct he has termed the Malignant Sociopathy. A list of sociopath traits and definitions of Dark Psychology and Malignant Sociopath are as follows:

Dark Psychology: A construct exploring the human condition, Dark Psychology is the study of the human condition as it relates to the psychological nature of people to prey upon others. All of humanity has this potential to victimize other humans & living creatures. While many restrain or sublimate this tendency, some act upon these impulses. Dark Psychology seeks to understand those thoughts, feelings and perceptions that lead to human predatory behavior. Dark Psychology assumes that this production is purposive and has some rational, goal-oriented motivation 99% of the time. The remaining 1%, under Dark Psychology, is the brutal victimization of others without purposive intent or reasonably defined by evolutionary science or religious dogma.

Dr. Nuccitelli has compiled data relevant to profiling a sociopath that does not require an extensive forensic evaluation. Assuming reports are correct that the three young women were held captive for a decade, Dr. Nuccitelli has compiled information about the assailants that are highly probable. His general bullet list outline is as follows:

SOCIOPATHIC HALLMARKS

  • 1. Lack of remorse, shame or guilt
  • 2. Severe narcissism and grandiosity.
  • 3. Does not recognize the rights of others.
  • 4. Views people as targets, opportunities & objects.
  • 5. Pathological liar and often talented at deception.
  • 6. Capacity for criminal or entrepreneurial versatility.
  • 7. Adept at being manipulative and conning.

TREATMENT/FANTASIES TOWARD VICTIMS

  • 1. Fantasize about or attempt to enslave of their victim(s).
  • 2. Fantasize about, attempt or succeed at exercising control over every aspect of the victim’s life.
  • 3. Highly dependent upon their victim’s affirmations (respect, gratitude and love.)
  • 4. Fantasize about and attempt to create a willing victim.
  • 5. Alternate between rage/abuse and small expressions of love/approval.
  • 6. Create addictive cycles between themselves and the targeted victim.
  • 7. Fantasize about, attempt or succeed at creating a sense of hopelessness in the victim.

HOW THE SOCIOPATH LIVES A DOUBLE LIFE

  • 1. Capacity to exhibit superficial charm.
  • 2. When in public, presents with a conventional appearance.
  • 3. Depending on situation, change their image as needed to avoid prosecution.
  • 4. Depending on social environment, change the specifics of their life.
  • 5. Consistently secretive & tend to be mildly paranoid.
  • 6. Excellent actors and blend in with their environment.
  • 7. Pathological liars and masters at practicing deception.

Malignant Sociopathy: A sub-tenet of Dark Psychology, Malignant Sociopathy is defined as a rare and extreme form of classic sociopathy, does not suffer from an acute psychiatric mental illness, is predominantly driven by the need for absolute power and control and views the enslavement of their victim(s) as a priori as opposed to taking their life, engaging in sexual and/or violent victimization, stealing their valuables or causing them psychological distress.

The current accepted definition of sociopathy is a personality disordered person that exhibits patterned behavior similar Antisocial Personality Disorder, often criminal or deviant, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience, lacks the ability to establish meaningful personal relationships, extremely egocentric and narcissistic and frequently engages in fantasizing about wanting to victimize, torture and enslave a targeted victim(s). Malignant Sociopathy is the severe form of the classic sociopathy with minor, but significant variations.
